Wordpress Vs Blogger: Which Website Is Best For Beginners
If you are reading this post as a beginner and want to know some differences between Blogger and WordPress websites, then I will be talking about some of the things that you need to know about Blogger and WordPress websites today.
WHAT IS WORDPRESS AND BLOGGER?
WordPress and Blogger are known as platforms that help users to create or design websites. Blogger is best for people who want to create a blog website, while WordPress is best for people that want to create a business or portfolio website. Blogger is one of Google’s products, and it is popularly used by beginners who want to start a blog or learn how a website works online.
WHY I DECIDED TO COMPARE WORDPRESS AND BLOGGER
The reason why I decided to compare WordPress and Blogger is that many beginners online normally search about WordPress and Blogger online, asking questions like “Is Blogger best for beginners? Blogger and WordPress benefits?” and this sometimes makes them confused. But if you are in the category of these beginners, I want to make sure that you understand the difference between the two platforms, so that you can be able to know the one that you should use as a beginner.
WHICH PLATFORM IS EASIER FOR BEGINNERS?
Every beginner can easily understand and learn how to use Blogger faster than WordPress, and that makes me see the Blogger platform as the easiest to use for beginners. WordPress is more technical because you will need to understand how to use tools like plugins, themes, or hosting for your website, while Blogger has already built-in features for you. What you have to do is to write your content and upload it to your website, but you can advance your Blogger website by using templates from Blogger. The main truth is that Blogger is easier for beginners.
COST COMPARISON: WORDPRESS VS BLOGGER
These are the comparison of the cost of using Blogger and WordPress platform for your website:
1. Hosting of Website
Using WordPress platform to build your website will require you to pay a monthly or yearly fee for hosting (storage) from hosting providers like Hostinger, Namecheap, or GoDaddy. Using Blogger for your website does not require you to pay any hosting fee, because your website will be hosted by Google for free.
2. Domain Name
You will need to pay for a domain name if you are using WordPress to build your website. While if you are using Blogger for your website, you will also have an option to either use a Blogger subdomain or purchase a domain name. Using a Blogger subdomain is completely free, and it will look like “yourwebsitename.blogspot.com”, and if you want a custom domain name, you will be paying about $10 per year, but your custom domain will look like “yourwebsitename.com”. The point here is that if you choose to use a Blogger subdomain, then you can run your Blogger website at no cost.
3. Premium Plugins
Using a WordPress website will require you to pay for premium plugins, while everything has been handled for you if you are using Blogger, and you don't need to pay any fee.
Blogger is the cheapest option for your website as a beginner because it allows you to run your website at zero cost, except if you decide to pay for a custom domain (which is optional).
FEW DISADVANTAGES OF USING BLOGGER
There are some little disadvantages that you may face when using Blogger for your website, and some of them are:
1. Customization is Limited
Blogger allows you to make few or little customization to the layout and features of your website, such as adding some custom style in your website HTML, or adding meta tags.
2. Limited Control of Your Website
You don't have complete control of your website. For example, you may check your website and only discover that your website is disabled or deleted by Google due to some reasons like policy violations or reports from users. But that shouldn't scare you because, even though Google has complete control to take down your Blogger website, it rarely happens.
3. Limited Functionality & Less Professional for Large Websites
Blogger does not support users to add many plugins, tools, or advanced features like other platforms such as WordPress. Blogger is mostly suitable for blogs and may not meet the needs for designing business websites like e-commerce or online stores. You can start a website with Blogger and advance to other platforms when your website grows.
WORDPRESS VS BLOGGER: WHICH ONE WOULD I RECOMMEND TO BEGINNERS?
We all know that Blogger is a blogging platform that is owned by Google. It is good for beginners that don't have money for starting a blog, while WordPress is also a platform that allows users to create blog websites, and you will need to pay for your website hosting. It also provides many themes and plugins for your website, some of which require payment.
I will recommend Blogger to a beginner who doesn't want to spend money starting a blog website online, which they can later advance to WordPress after understanding how the website works online and when they want complete control of their website as it grows.
