HOW TO ADD YOUR WEBSITE TO GOOGLE IN 2026

WHY YOUR WEBSITE IS NOT ON GOOGLE

The main reason why your website is not on Google is because you have not added your website to Google, or Google have not indexed your website yet. But in this post, you will learn how to add your website to Google.

CREATE A GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE ACCOUNT

Google Search Console is a free tool from Google that helps website owners add their websites to Google and also monitor how their websites appear in Google search, like how many people clicked on their website on Google and the keywords that are bringing visitors to their website. And to get a Google Search Console account for your website, these are the steps that you should follow:

  1. Go to Google Search Console
  2. Sign in with your Google account (Gmail), and you can create a Gmail account if you don't have one yet.
  3. Click on “Add Property”
  4. If you are using your own domain, choose “Domain”, but if you are using a subdomain, then you can choose “URL Prefix”
  5. Search Console will ask you to verify website ownership with different methods like DNS record, file upload, Google Tag Manager, or using Google Analytics.
  6. After verification, your Search Console account is ready for adding your website to Google.

SUBMIT YOUR WEBSITE SITEMAP

After creating your Search Console account, the next step is to add your website sitemap to Google Search Console. A sitemap is like a table of contents for your website that tells Google what pages exist on your website, and which pages should be visited and indexed on Google. And these are the steps to submit your website sitemap to Search Console:

  1. On your Google Search Console account dashboard
  2. Click on “Sitemaps” in the left menu
  3. Enter your sitemap URL, which will look like “https://yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml” or “https://yourdomain.com/sitemap_index.xml”
  4. Click on “Submit” and your sitemap will be added successfully.

REQUEST GOOGLE INDEXING

Requesting Google indexing means asking Google to visit your website and add it to Google search results. These are the steps to request Google indexing:

  1. On your Google Search Console dashboard
  2. Copy and paste your website URL that you want Google to index into the top inspection bar.
  3. Go ahead and press Enter on your keyboard.
  4. Google will check the URL that you pasted.
  5. Go ahead and click on “Request Indexing”
  6. Google will then keep the website in the queue for crawling, and it may take hours or weeks to index your website. And sometimes it might not be indexed if your website is not as Google wants it.

When requesting indexing for your website: (1) make sure that your website URL works properly, (2) avoid thin or duplicate content, (3) make sure that the website URL is not blocked by “noindex” or the robots.txt file.

HOW TO CHECK IF YOUR WEBSITE IS INDEXED ON GOOGLE

If your website is being “indexed”, it means that Google has stored your website URL in its database and can show it in Google search results. This is the method that I use to check if my website is indexed on Google:

METHOD 1: WITH GOOGLE SEARCH

  1. I will go to google.com
  2. Then search for “site: mywebsite.com” or “mywebsite.com”
  3. If my website pages or posts appear, then my website is indexed on Google. And if it shows no results, that means my website is not yet indexed on Google.

METHOD 2: WITH GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE

  1. I will open my Google Search Console dashboard.
  2. Then click on the URL Inspection tool and paste my website URL.
  3. Search Console will show me if the “URL is on Google” or “URL is not on Google”.

And if your website is not indexed on Google, then there may be a reason like your website content is copied or thin, your website has a “noindex” tag, or your website is still new.
